Artist's Statement

My fine art photography tends toward the abstract. I like to explore the shapes, patterns, colors and textures that become visible when objects are photographed up close or from an unusual perspective. When viewed alone with limited context or in juxtaposition with another object, these abstract characteristics become the subject of my images and the viewer is drawn into an intimate dialogue with the object. I am particularly attracted to weathered buildings and machinery, where there is often rich visual content to contemplate.

My interest in photography began as a young boy, when I used my brother’s darkroom to develop negatives and prints of the moon and stars. After a career in business, I rediscovered my love for the camera and the way in which it captures moments in time and space to communicate a unique view of the world. I have been influenced, in particular, by the industrial photographs of Charles Sheeler and Bernd & Hilda Becher.
